The famous Soviet pianist Sviatoslav Richter and his wife soprano singer Nina Dorliak gave several concerts in Bucharest. Although on his first visit to Rumania, Richter was already known to the Rumanian public from his recorded concerts broadcast by the Rumanian radio. The Soviet pianist played with the "George Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra the second concerto for piano and orchestra by Brahms. "In Richter, an extraordinary vitality and a refined sensibility, wonderfully blend with a great intelligence that equilibrates the tempestuous feeling, subordinating it to the idea", a music critic wrote on this occasion. Sviatoslav Richter also gave two recitals. The programme included works by Schubert, Schumann, Mussorgski and Liszt. Nina Dorliak gave a recital accompanied by Richter. She sang pieces by Mussorgski, Debussy, De Falla, Prokofieff and Weekerlin. The concerts and recitals given by the two Soviet artists were a great success.
